Week In Review
This past week we have been lodging at a resort in north western Virginia. Our family and friends joined us throughout the week and we even celebrated Owen's birthday. Relaxation, adventure, and history are all here. If we wanted, we could be busy every minute.
One of the first days here, MA and I went swimming at the indoor pool. The water was chilly, but the hot tub was just right.

Our friends joined us for a sleepover during Owen's birthday. We roasted marshmallows at night and woke up to a yummy breakfast and an adventure tubing down the ski hill. Fortunately for Owen's birthday, his wish was to sit and read the entire afternoon.
In middle of the week we went apple picking at an orchard and came away with way too many apples.

Yesterday, the kids and I went hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
Entry to the National Forest was free thanks to our fourth grader, but I spent the money saved in the gift shop. One can not have enough mugs and magnets.

After our hike, we fished in the nearby lake, but caught nothing. We currently have leftover worms wiggling in the refrigerator. I guess we could try again at the pond near our dwellings in South Carolina.
Today, we toured Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. It was fun to study the architecture of Monticello last year and today we were able to see it up close. It began raining as soon as we arrived, so our tour inside was appreciated. The acreage outside the house was beautiful, but with the rain, our tour was shortened. A short trip to Trader Joe's in Charlottesville on our way back gave us a van load of snacks for the road ahead.
It is weird to think our trip is 3/4 of the way completed. Months of planning and we are beginning the end. I can't wait to sleep in my own bed and take on a new sewing project.
